Accutane (isotretinoin), is a medication for severe acne. Accutane has been linked to severe depression, suicide, birth defects, Crohn's disease, and Ulcerated Colitis.

Accutanne is primarily prescribed for severe acne. Dermatologists typically prescribe Accutane for patients who have tried everything else, topical treatments as well as antibiotics.

 

Accutane is in a class of drugs called "retinoids". It is a form of vitamin A and works by reducing the amount of oil secreted onto the skin and by increasing the shedding and renewal process of the skin.

In addition to serious mental disorders Accutane may also play a role in causing Crohn's disease and Ulcerative Colitis (inflammatory bowel disorders) in patients with no history of intestinal disorders before using Accutane.
