In May of 2000 a group of scientists from the Yale University School of Medicine submitted a report to the FDA that showed that people taking Phenylpropanolamine (PPA) were at an increased risk for hemorrhagic stroke. Although the risk of hemorrhagic stroke is very small, the FDA still has expressed serious concerns because of the severity of a stroke.
The FDA has begun to take steps to remove drugs which contain PPA from the market, and has already asked pharmaceutical companies to either reformulate these drugs or to stop selling them.
Although use of drugs containing PPA has been mainly linked to hemorrhagic strokes, other serious side effects include heart damage, hypertension, acute kidney failure, convulsions, and acute psychosis.

Phenylpropanolamine is an ingredient used in both prescription and over-the-counter medications as a nasal decongestant in cold and sinus drugs, and as an appetite suppresant in over-the-counter weight loss drugs.
Remember! Don't wait until it's too late! The law puts time limits on how long you can wait before bringing a case. The time limits and conditions vary from state-to-state and under Federal Law.
